Nokia: Symbian Anna Coming Next Month
Nokia has also announced today in Singapore, that they will be introducing 10 Symbian phones in the coming 12 months. Stephen Elop, Nokia CEO, said on stage that they plan to offer support and software upgrades through 2016 giving some hints on the continuity of the platform for developers. According to an article in AllThingsD, Nokia will also start shipping the new version of Symbian, Anna, on new hardware next month. Current Symbian phone owners will be able to upgrade their phones with the new version starting August.
The new version, Symbian Anna, will be first featured on Nokia N8s, E7s, C7s and C6-01s that it will begin shipping next month.
Some of the key improvements to Symbian include a faster and slicker Ovi Maps, while business users will be able to benefit from instant messaging with the Microsoft Communicator Mobile as well as e-mail invitations with full meeting request support and upgrades to the social networking features. Nokia has also announced improvements to the browser, making it smoother and faster.
Upgrading to Symbian Anna will be free and available through a PC or as an over-the-air update. More information on the features are available on the Nokia Conversations blog.
10 Symbian phones in 12 months? I still don't get why Nokia does that. Just give us a couple really good ones. Besides, this kind of talk just waters the n9 announcement further. Lacks focus.
That n9 is a cool looking device, and it's just kind of sad that it seems like it will be the first and last product resulting from that development struggle. Congrats to everyone who pushed forwards with it.
