Breaking: Angry Birds Cross 500 Million Downloads

We got an exclusive tip from the Mighty Eagle himself, that Rovio will be announcing something new at this year's Slush. The tip held through, as Mikael Hed, the CEO of the company made the announcement on stage through a video; Angry Birds has now been downloaded more than 500 million times. That's one hell of a milestone.

Only a little over a year ago, the company announced that they will try to reach 100 million downloads in 12 months. How wrong they were (and how crazy we all thought they were).

In addition they also announced some other interesting figures. At 100 million downloads 44 billion stars were collected. Furthermore at 210 million downloads over 200 000 years of Angry Birds have been played.

Peter Vesterbacka also said that 500 million downloads is more than any other game ever. It has also taken them less than 2 years to achieve this milestone. Furthermore - the goal for the company is to have 1 billion fans and have them as an entertainment company, not as a gaming company.

Below is the video the company showed on stage before their announcement.

In addition to the announcement, Rovio will open the first Angry Birds shop in Helsinki to sell their merchandise. So far, the company has sold more than 10 million plush toys around the world.

Rovio and Angry Birds has been the best example and inspiration to all finish entrepreneurs in last few years. A fresh exception to traditional marketing and boldness in Finnish business culture.

As we again "celebrate" our envious culture speculating with how much our fellow finns make money, it's good to remind that without these succesful people and companies we all would have much less.

Thanks guys! I'm inspired.
