With a spotlight on Europe’s up-and-coming female-led startups, the five finalists and the winner have been announced to the Lady Pitch Night, the biggest pan-European competition for female-founded startups.
This was the 4th edition of the event, seeing good overall traction with 178 startups from 22 different countries applying, and even Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg and the European Commission’s Neelie Kroes virtually dropping in with pre-recorded statements.
The qualifications to join were for the startup to have at least one female founder, and to be within 6 and 36 months of existence. The startups were then judged based on the innovation and technical component of their business, in addition to their overall development. We past covered the event, here.
Here were the finalists:
Cocofarm from Sofia, Bulgaria
A mini-ERP to raise the business performance of egg producing farms, while also ensuring automatic document compliance with HACCP requirements and the EU legislation.
Fojo from Zagreb, Croatia
Their app, Fojo, is an “advanced camera app” with photoshop-like settings and live filters. This plays well with the comany’s first product, Enfojer, that turns any smartphone into an LCD projector allowing you to enlarge analog photo prints directly from the screen. You still need traditional darkroom equipment, but it ties in nicely to Fojo.
Gemmyo from Paris, France
An online, custom made jewlery brand where you can select and personalize with your choice of metal an jemstones.
Easysize from Copenhagen, Denmark
The winner of the competition was an online fit solution that allows users to select the size of a brand they already own, helping compare that sizing when shopping online. This helps save money due to returns.
Cortechs from Dublin, Ireland
The company builds brainwave sensing platforms with their own algorithims to accurately track how focused or relaxed the wearer is in real time.
The five finalists won tickets to all the next up-and-coming events in the fall, like TechCrunch Disrupt, Dublin Web Summit, LeWeb Paris, DLD, and The Europas, with Copnhagen’s Easysize automatically qualifying as a semifinalist to LeWeb’s Startup competition.
“This is a unique experience for Europe’s top female entrepreneurs to gain more exposure and recognition,” said Roxanne Varza, co-organizer of the Lady Pitch Night and co-director of Girls in Tech in Paris. “People are always saying that there aren’t enough women at top tech conferences.”
It’s always good to see women killing it in Tech, and hopefully we’ll see more of the region’s startups on the list next year.
