IVA conference prepping: killer advice on pitching to VCs

Jussi Harvela, Moaffak Ahmed and Pekka Roine advising the group of entrepreneurs on how to pitch to VCs just days before heading to Israel. See previous related posts here and here. Read also on the ASI’s (from Skype fame) investment in Senseg. Senseg is one of the startups chosen to board the plain to Israel along with a handful of others.

Floobs video interview

I did a video interview of Kai Lemmetty and Joonas Pekkanen from Floobs some time in February. I never had time to edit and go through the video, but I finally managed to do so in the Easter holidays. During the editing of the video, I noticed that the add-on microphone was slightly faulty and it only recorded the left channel - therefore the sound quality is quite bad, apologies for that. Nevertheless, I decided its better to release the video late than never - so here it is:

HS Startup Competition pitches online

Here’s the winner’s pitch - Beneq.

I finally managed to upload all the HS Startup Competition pitches online after a little detective work to find the best alternative where to host them. It turned out that Viddler seems to have the best flexibility with relatively good video quality as well. Above is the winner, Beneq, and below you will find the rest. Here are the videos for the rest of the companies who participated in the competition: Ekahau, Movial, Plenware, Sulake, Xtract, Digium, Floobs, Codenomicon and Idean.

The upside of using Viddler is that you can download the videos for yourself/offline use if you wish to do so.

Here’s the keynote from Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo from yesterday’s Helsingin Sanomat Startup Competition. We will be adding all the different pitches online later on.

The talk is in Finnish, so apologies to our foreign readers.

Floobs goes head on with Seesmic

FloobsLaunched in September 2007, Floobs (and the Finnish version, open for beta), is going head on with Seesmic into the personal video channel business.

Floobs is now in open beta in the Finnish site and the site will be going to live beta on the international site in November, according to their help page. Floobs allows users to store video clips on the server, make their own videos out of them and follow other users’ videos. Floobs also allows users to send live video, which is a nice idea - not sure how usable though.

Like many Finnish companies, Floobs allows users to send video through a mobile client onto the service. The mobile client will also be able to broadcast live video, so this is taking the whole citizen journalism to a new level. For the moment the client was still not loadable, but will be on the site during autumn 2007.

If you’re in Paris for LeWeb 3, you’ll be able to bumb into the founders - Joonas Pekkanen and Kai Lemmetty.
