Can you bootstrap your midsummer eve? (just for fun) (rahoituskone.fi)

Instead of taking the car to your summer cabin, you can save money that would be used on gas by biking. It will take you longer to get to your destination, but it is possible!

On the way to the cabin you might want to get some food. Ofcourse you could borrow some vegetables and fish from your neighbour (or you could catch the fish yourself), but it is more time effective to get them from the supermarket.

Once you arrive to the summer cabin, you’ll want to make sure that the electricity is turned off, and stays turned off during the whole weekend. Home appliances such as the stove use electricity and are costly, so there will be no use of them either. Instead, have all of the guests gather wood for the fire that you will use to smoke the fish and heat the water for the potatoes. Boiling the water using a fire will take longer than it would with a stove, so you better start with this early.

Having the food ready you start to think about what you will drink. Ofcourse there will be no Koskenkorva as that is far too costly. Being the good bootstrapper that you are, you forecasted this weekend a long time ago and brewed some beer at home. Now that both the food and the drinks are in order the fiesta may begin.

While eating you managed to spill some beer on yourself and realized that a sauna bath would be good. Being the bootstrapper that you are you immediately started to smile when you realized that your sauna has a stove that is heated with wood, and that it is completely free.. (assuming you have wood in your forest)

As you can imagine, a bootstrapped midsummer eve would be quite different, but it is completely possible! However, biking home after that weekend wouldn't be too much fun...

Just like how a bootstrapped midsummer-eve will differ from a normal one, the daily operations of a bootstrapped startup do differ from that of a funded startup, but it is completely possible.

I wrote a blog-post on the basics of bootstrapping a company (in finnish) for any and all of you who might be interested.

Good reading and a happy midsummer to you all!
