M4ID is seeking a highly-motivated, dynamic individual to lead and develop M4ID’s unique portfolio of service design and technology innovation projects for international development and health partners.

The Director will, together with M4ID’s Managing Director, be responsible for implementing a new two-year health innovation project in two Sub-Saharan African countries, in partnership with the World Health Organization. The Director will also lead the design and roll out of an activist platform, with an initial focus on India, as well as heading teams developing mhealth projects in Africa and Asia.

In addition to managing teams implementing these four projects, the Director will be in charge of raising the profile of service design and innovation among the global development and health field as well as originating new projects. In this role, the post-holder will, together with the Managing Director, build M4ID’s reputation as a lead social change service design and technology expert internationally. Tasks will include, among others, profiling M4ID at conferences, identifying new opportunities and developing service design/innovation proposals.

The post is a full-time position based in Helsinki, with a fixed-term one-year contract. The contract includes an incentive package aligned with the growth of M4ID’s service design and technology innovation line. The post requires the ability to travel internationally.


The successful candidate will be educated to a university degree level, have a minimum of five years of experience in human-centred service design, possess demonstrated technology and innovation capacity, have excellent communications skills and a good understanding of international development issues.

The candidate will also need to demonstrate:

Creative thinking, concept development skills
Fluency in English (both verbal and written)
Research skills and ability to synthesize data/information
Ability to create trusting relations with diverse partners
Cultural understanding and sensitivity
Commitment to social change
