Have you ever thought about building a banking service from scratch? What would that bank look like?

At Holvi we believe change is ahead for the financial sector, and we are one of the companies building it. Our ambition is huge, and the challenge is immense, but our approach is very unique, with a real focus on the user experience for customers that traditional banks serve poorly. While we are financed by people with a banking background, our own team is totally product focused and with a strong technical core.

We also think that since the Internet is where things happen nowadays, the best banking experience should be built there. We don't cut corners in delivering it. We want online banking to be so smooth that you never even have to think about it.

We are looking for a person to take up the mantle of lead frontend developer to help us build this.

Be aware that a history in hacking jQuery scripts is not enough. We want someone who understands the importance of APIs, architecture, beautiful code and beautiful results. You should want to take pride in your work and have solid experience in software development and HTML + CSS. An in-depth knowledge of Javascript would be helpful, although not required as great developers learn. Experience in UI design is also useful (typography, layout, usability etc). You will work closely with the chief experience officer and the backend team. A demoscene background is a plus, as is involvement with open source projects.

You will be working on making the experience fluid and a joy for the user. The Holvi work environment is demanding, but also very rewarding. We value a desire to learn and appreciate people who have done things with other people, whether it’s running a sports club, organising events or building hill karts from scratch. This means you will better understand our customers and understand that there's more to building something than technical details.

Holvi has a self-built Javascript UI framework, along with Backbone.js. The frontend uses mainly the latest CSS and HTML features for good interactivity. On the backend we use Python, Django and PostgreSQL. We are hosted on AWS.

Good English communications skills are a must, Finnish is a plus. Knowledge of other European languages will be helpful when we go international next year.

We are not looking for subcontracting but to make you a core member of the team. Our primary goal is to have you in Helsinki; we can help with relocation.
