TechHub Riga aims for €40,000 to travel around the world

Latvia’s oldest co-working space TechHub Riga has filmed a video to promote startup culture and gather some funds for TechHub Riga fundraising campaign. The story of the piece revolves around tech heroes based in Valley of Spirit conquering new heights of success by traveling around the startup world. You can view the piece here:

Since its inception in 2012 TechHub Riga has been home  for more than 40 startups, including great Latvian success stories like Cobook (now FullContact), Fastr Books, Sellfy, Froont, MaxTraffic and Infogr.am. To date TechHub Riga alumni are employing more than 60 people in various countries and have raised more than 3 million EUR in funding. TechHub Riga is a non-profit foundation with mostly voluntary staff and using member fees to cover operating costs, the rest of the funds acquiring via sponsorships and donations. Since their expansion into a twice bigger office due to startup community’s growth, there is now need for most basic items of infrastructure, things like desks and mugs.

“It takes 40,000 km to travel around the world and symbolically we aim to raise €40,000 to equip all TechHub Riga members with desks and mugs (and other much needed resources), that are required to get startups on the success journey “around the world” or become globally oriented from day one,” TechHub CEO Alise Lezdina explains. “We have made this short video to show that in fact startup journey is not that different from a journey around the world. Possibly, it is even more challenging to create your own globally successful company just from scratch. We would like to encourage more people and organisations to donate for a desk or a mug, add their inspiring quote and support Latvian startup scene and growth of emerging startup success stories!”

TechHub Riga story has been shared around Twitter, with more than 10% of the pledged amount already raised on the platform. This is the second wave of the campaign started in November that we covered here. January wave still uses the same hashtag – #GrowTechHubRiga. Moreover,m people still keeps sharing their daring posters featuring photos reminiscent of the early 90’s that were spread across social media under the slogan ‘Stop domestic entrepreneurship!’:
