King.com Acquires Swedish Mobile Game Developer, Fabrication Games
In Swedish gaming news, Techcrunch reports King.com has just acquired Swedish mobile gaming developer Fabrication Games. In recent years King.com has risen to become the fourth largest game developer on Facebook after Zynga, Wooga, and EA, but has yet to make a big push to mobile. Fabrication Games has been working in the mobile gaming industry for a long time -- they won their first award in 2002 -- and all signs point to a talent acquisition. The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.
Finnish, Swedish Games Heavily Favored At International Mobile Gaming Awards
This year Barcelona is playing host to the eighth International Mobile Gaming Awards as part of the Mobile World Congress. Almost 500 games in total were submitted for review, and the list has been whittled down to 30 games in 6 categories. We noticed the Nordics and Baltics were heavily favored on the list, and includes 5 games from Finland, 3 from Sweden, and one game from Lithuania.
Microsoft BizSpark European Summit Finalists Announced
Microsoft BizSpark European Summit released the names of the 14 finalists from the whole of Europe. The competition involved hundreds of startups from all over Europe and making it to the top means that the selected startups had great potential to impress the selectors. Each of the finalists had to battle their way to this spot against numerous companies and two qualification rounds to grab a chance to pitch their ideas live in front of an audience of investors and a panel of expert judges. This final event will be held on June 14, in Brussels. Impressively, 4 companies are from the Northern European region.
