Lokus Digital Releases Nuke Commander
A couple days before Christmas, recent Startup Sauna graduate Lokus Digital released their first game, Nuke Commander, in the Android app store. In the game, you play as an AI supercomputer that is intent on destroying the earth, like sort of a Skynet style plot. The visual style of the game gives immediate flashbacks to the cold war from the 1980's style state-of-the-art green wireframe graphics that chart launched nuclear missiles. The game should also soon be available in the Apple App store.
Mojang Releases Cobalt, First 3rd Party Game As Publisher
The creators of Minecraft have released their first third-party game as a publisher: Cobalt. The game is a 2D platformer with fighting robots that looks like it has similar elements to Super Smash Brothers. It should also be noted that currently there are no single player campaigns, only co-op and multiplayer. The game is only available on Windows initially, with OS X and Linux support arriving in "Beta."
Alan Wake Set To Release May 21st In Europe, May 18th In The States
The Finnish Helsingin Sanomat has interviewed Sami Järvi the writer of the game and in the article they also confirm the release dates for Alan Wake. The game is set to be released in Europe on the 21st of May and in the US, a few days earlier, on the 18th. A while back in a "Predictions for 2010" -post I predicted that the game will be launched a few months late, but it seems that there is no reason at the moment to delay it. After all, the release date is about 2 months away.
Scred releases an Army of Ghosts
Army of Ghosts is the newest and largest release of Scred since it opened to the public. In the new release, just released today, the largest feature is called direct screding.
Direct screding is when you share your costs with people who aren't yet registered on scred. You can direct the costs to an e-mail address and once the person registers on scred she is able to see the the amount she owns to the other people who split costs. Kristoffer Lawson, one of the founders of Scred, states that this has been one of the major differences in their service to foreign rivals and with this release they are catching up on their development. Other updates on the release can be seen in their blog.
Kristoffer also told us that Scred has been seperated from Fishpool into its own corporation. This of course means they will be able to focus on the development of Scred more thoroughly. Fishpool and founders of Scred have funded the company so far.
Kristoffer will also be on our panel, so come down to Dubrovnik on the 8th of May to see what they are up to.
